For all those Squirrel Girl fans out there, we may be getting more content of her within the next year or two!

In an exclusive from TVLine, it has been revealed that Marvel and ABC Studios are in the process of developing and shopping around a series based off of the New Warriors comics. If picked up by a cable or streaming service, we will be getting a series that puts a spotlight on one of the New Warriors team members – Squirrel Girl.

Within the past couple of months, Squirrel Girl has been getting more publicity in the media. Anna Kendrick expressed interest in the role after being introduced to the character by her Brother. She made a statement recently saying as much in Net A Porter magazine:

“My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”

Shannon Purser, who’s known as Barb from Netflix’s Stranger Things, expressed her interest in the character last month while making the press rounds. In an interview with the Revelist, she openly expressed how much she loved the character and how necessary the character is for people to relate to, especially for younger women:

“I think Squirrel Girl is just adorable but at the same time is totally boss and completely awesome. I think people need a character like that,” Purser said. “It’s easy in the superhero realm to feel like a lot of the female superheroes we see are grown women who are super responsible and know what their purpose is and that kind of thing. Squirrel Girl is a little bit younger and like a real person, trying to figure out her life and then also having to save the world. I love that.”

If the New Warriors series gets picked up, the series would focus on the team of teenage superheroes fighting to save the world together. There will possibly be Avengers comparisons due to the similarities between the teams. The clashing personalities are similar, but one is a team of teenagers while the other is a team of adults.

There has been no news about when the series will premiere since it is both still in development and hasn’t been picked up yet by a major network. Until then, we will be playing the waiting game until we get confirmation that the series will, indeed, be picked up and released.
