Yesterday CinemaBlend reported on news surrounding the post-credits scene from X-Men: Apocalypse. Director Bryan Singer revealed in audio commentary attached to the digital release of X-Men Apocalypse that the post-credits scene was a teaser for what to expect from the untitled Wolverine 3 movie. And, it hints at a possible villain appearing in the upcoming film as well.
For those of us who recall the scene, we noticed the hinting at a possible villain when we saw what happened. When we see that the men are from a company known as Essex Corp, bells started going off in our heads. For those of you who don’t know, Essex Corp. is owned by Mister Sinister or, by his civilian name, Nathaniel Essex.
If you can’t recall what the post-credits scene was, CinemaBlend provided a detailed description here:
For those that don’t remember the sequence, it begins by taking audiences back to the famed Weapon X facility at Alkali Lake — which remains a bloody crime scene following the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. A group of men walk into the area, led by a guy in a business suit and thick black glasses, and while some of them are clearly assigned to clean the place up, the others have more specific jobs. The man in the glasses (who Bryan Singer jokingly calls “Elvis Costello” on the commentary) goes into a cabinet and grabs the blood/DNA of Weapon X — a.k.a. James Howlett a.k.a. Logan a.k.a. Wolverine.
He puts this sample in a briefcase with a lid hiding its contents, and it’s then that we see that the men are representatives from Essex Corp., the company owned by Nathaniel Essex a.k.a. Mister Sinister.
To further support the inclusion of Mister Sinister appearing in Wolverine 3, we only have to look at the casting of Richard E. Grant as a “mad scientist” type. Considering Mister Sinister is a mad scientist obsessed with genetics and has conducted gene splicing and cloning experiments, I think it’s safe to say that Grant is probably playing Mister Sinister.
One thing that I’m really excited for is, by introducing Mister Sinister in Wolverine 3, it may be setting up the character for multiple appearances later on in the X-Men movie franchise. Considering what kind of presence he has had in the comics, we can determine that he would cause some major villainous shenanigans in the live-action universe as well.
What do you think of this introduction to Mister Sinister? What do you know about the character? Do you think that Richard E. Grant is playing him in the Wolverine 3 film? Let us know your thoughts below in the comments section.
