Daniel Craig Offered $150 million to Reprise Bond Role

A source has told Radar Online that Sony is offering Craig a big paycheck to be Bond in the next two movies.  Craig being done with the franchise and not looking to continue with the role are the rumors which are swirling around the internet.  Daniel Craig James Bond

“Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on,” Craig told TimeOut London.

However, in the same interview and other sites are leaving off the end off the quote when Craig talked about being asked to be in the next installments.

“Well, I was contracted to do another one. That was all set up. But at the studio there was a real keenness to get it done as soon as possible. In fact, there was a conversation at one point that went: “Let’s film two movies back to back.” I just went: “You’re out of your f***ing minds.” In the nicest possible way. They’re just too big,” Craig said.

The “they’re just too big” part of the quote is extremely important.  He is referring to how much work it takes to film a Bond movie.  To film two James Bond movies back to back is what he would rather slit his wrist than film.  However, it doesn’t seem he hates the movies like other sites are inferring by misquoting him.

Sony wants to retain him because of the delays of contract negotiations will cause their filming schedule to be set back. Sony knows Craig can be a good Bond.  Craig could be appearing to be uninterested in the role to get a bigger payday.  Others have done similar tactics to get bigger paychecks so it is not unheard of.  It is also possible Craig is just really unwilling to film back-to-back. He may film one or two more as long as there is a break in the middle.

Craig has been in four James Bond movies over the last 10 years and has been well received by fans.  His Bond movies have done well to varying degrees at the box office and with critics with Spectre receiving a “Fresh” score of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes.

If Craig is really ready to hang up his martini glass then who will take his place?  Internet rumors have named possible replacements as Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hiddleston.  If I may throw another name in there, Jason Statham, he is already kinda of playing that character in other films like Mechanic: Resurrection.

Daniel Craig is listed on IMDB’s listing of Bond 25 but time will tell if this comes true or if the world will see a new James Bond.
