DC on The CW

Earlier today EW reported that the Big Bad for the epic 4 show crossover event will be the Dominators.  Speaking on the subject, Executive Producer Mark Guggenheim revealed:

“This year, for our mega ‘Arrowverse’ crossover, we’re taking inspiration from a DC crossover from the late 1980s known as Invasion!, which featured an alien race called the Dominators, who’d previously vexed the Legion of Superheroes,”

From DC.Wikia.com: The Dominators, collectively known as the Dominion, are an alien race from the outer cosmos of the universe. They are highly technologically advanced, and live in a rigid hierarchical society, in which one’s caste is determined by the size of a red circle on one’s forehead. They are master geneticists who can manipulate the meta-gene to enhance members of their own caste.

I really like this idea, up until now the only show that has really dealt with aliens has been Supergirl so it will be interesting to see how our other heroes handle an alien threat. You may recall that Legends of Tomorrow eluded to an invasion by the Thanagarians, but we never actually saw them. We know that we’ll definitely be seeing the Dominators though, as Mark Guggenheim elaborated on their design,

“We’re using cutting edge prosthetics and computer effects to achieve a feature film-quality look which is faithful to Invasion! artist Todd McFarlane’s interpretation of the characters.”

In the original Invasion crossover,

The Dominators believed that the unpredictable evolutionary tendencies of Earth’s metahumans posed a clear and present danger to the state of the universe. When the invasion was beginning to crumble and turning to Earth’s favor, one Dominator created a ‘Gene Bomb‘ and detonated it in Earth’s atmosphere that would affect many individuals that possess the metagene, causing them to lose control of their powers and eventually fall into a coma and die. Since the point of the invasion was to harness these beings, not eradicate them, the Dominator was imprisoned by his own government, but prior to execution a group of heroes unaffected by the Gene Bomb, led by the Martian Manhunter, managed to steal data from his mind crucial to reversing the effects of the Gene Bomb and restore most metahumans back to health. Ironically, the detonation of the Gene Bomb was actually responsible for the creation of several metahumans.

This story has a lot of potential to shake things up for CW’s DC universe, this could be what brings more metahumans to Supergirl’s Earth or possibly they could change up the story a bit and the weapon could be what brings Supergirl to the same universe as everyone else.

What do you guys think about this choice? Let me know in the comments!
