Since news broke out that Disneyland’s California Adventure park was going to replace the Tower of Terror with a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction, there has been a massive outcry towards the new attraction. Tower of Terror was a fan favorite to those of us who have visited the California themed park. To replace it with a Marvel theme, a Disney property that doesn’t even match with the theme of the park, has seemed mindblowingly insane.

Skepticism is at its peak but, with a video that Disney released today giving an overview of the plans for the ride, I think we should take a step back and re-evaluate our opinions a little bit regarding the new changes.

In the video below, we are given a visual look at the exterior of what will be the Collector’s Fortress. Joe Rohde, the creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, describes the feeling that the Fortress should be giving off. Gone is the familiar Tower of Terror and, instead, it has been replaced by a fortress-like power plant. The power plant is “surging with power, rising up into the sky, and packed with all of his rare irreplaceable collections from around the world”. This is where we see the Guardians locked up in tanks, hinting that they are a part of the Collector’s collection now.

Looking at the model featured in the video, I can’t help but be impressed. The gold and silver color scheme works beautifully and, if I’m picturing it properly, will look amazing both during the day and at night. Considering they would want a building that is versatile and would look good photographically, this is a big plus. Visually, I think I’m sold. However, the actual ride itself is another story. Until we have more information surrounding the actual ride portion of the ride, I shall remain slightly skeptical.

The title for the ride is Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! This is fitting given the image we see of the Guardians being locked up inside the Fortress. The ride is set to keep the familiar free-falling motion we’ve become accustomed to in the original Tower of Terror ride. However, supposedly there will be a variety of random ride experiences for guests to experience, making each experience on the ride different almost every time. It’ll be interesting to see how the creators of the ride handle that.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! will be opening at Disneyland’s California Adventure Park during the summer of 2017. Keep an eye out on Disney’s social media and their blog, which you can find here, for any new updates on the ride.

In the meantime, please take a look at the video below to see the full model of the Collector’s Fortress. Please make sure you leave your thoughts in the comments below.
