For those of you familiar with DC’s Aquaman comic book lore, you know that Atlantis is an underwater civilization made up of many different domains. Such as Dolph Lundgren’s King Nereus being the ruler of the Xebel domain and Mera and her twin sister Siren hail from there. Many fans assumed we’d see kings fighting rulers in the Aquaman movie, but that may not be the case. According to an Instagram post that Jason Moma sent out, it looks like Patrick Wilson’s Orm will be the ruler of Atlantis, not Arthur Curry.
In the most commonly known continuity, the relationship between Orm and Arthur is one that centers around jealously, with Curry firmly established as the King and Orm seeking to overthrow him. There’s also the continuity where Altantean’s don’t know Arthur exist and that he’s the rightful ruler. Vulko raised Arthur on the surface keeping him from his heritage, and lastly, in the most recent origin, Aquaman has abdicated the throne and turned over ruling the Kingdom to Orm. It looks like James Wan and Zack Snyder might be taking pieces from all three origins.
Aquaman arrives in theaters December 21, 2018.
