Disney and Lucasfilm have continued to explore ways to continue on the Star Wars anthologies by reaching out to filmmakers and like Gareth Edwards’ for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for the upcoming untitled Han Solo film. It appears that Lucasfilm may have already been in talks with Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail to pen the next anthology film.
According to a source for Omega Underground, they claim that Lucasfilm has had several meetings with Esmail about possibility writing the rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film. At this time, none of this is confirmed and we’re classifying it just as a rumor. Currently, Esmail has devoted most of his writing and directing time to his critically-acclaimed show Mr. Robot and is also working on his upcoming television miniseries adaption of the 1927 film Metropolis, so there is the possibility that Esmail wouldn’t even have time to work on a script as consuming as Star Wars.
