If you’re thinking Thor: Ragnarok will be a faithful adaption of the Planet: Hulk storyline then you are going to be very disappointed. It’s becoming more clear that we’re never going to get a solo adventure of the Hulk anytime soon, but the next best thing is getting a buddy team up film with Thor. While most fans probably didn’t think the all of the story beats from Planet: Hulk to completely take over the film it sounds like the movie ties into the film more incidentally. During Screen Rant’s set visit, Brad Winderbaum, the producer for Thor: Ragnarok shed some light on how the Planet Hulk storyline influenced the prequels.

“In the earliest development of Thor, we were looking at ‘Planet Hulk’ as inspiration, maybe not even to integrate the Hulk into the franchise but the idea of a planet where there’sgladiatorial games as being a Thor predicament. It really was a cool idea to us. Somewhere in the early conversations, when it looked like it was going that way, it was a no brainer. It actually started off as like, ‘…could we have Hulk in there too?’ And then as soon as that spark ignited, it ignited kind of an idea machine. And suddenly [Hulk] was married to the plot.”
Now, we know some fans are going to be disappointed by the fact that the Plant: Hulk storyline got dwindled down to a few scenes in the Grandmaster’s arena with a lot of what made that story great left out of the final cut, but it was to be expected since this is primarily a Thor adventure, but the battle between the two does sound epic. Who knows, maybe if we’re lucky we can see a film by Universal and Marvel Studios about the Hulk landing on Sakaar and get our full Planet: Hulk story some day, or I can keep dreaming about it. Either way, Thor: Ragnarok smashes into theaters November 3rd, 2017.
