Having been absent from all but the final scene of Star Wars The Force Awakens, fans have been wondering what Luke Skywalker has been through in the three decades since Return of the Jedi.
Following the first two trailers for The Last Jedi and his Dark Side look on the new posters, some are wondering if Luke is, in fact, the true villain over Snoke.
Now Star Wars theorist Mike Zeroh has spoken out on the matter in his new YouTube video.
He said: “As you all know, in [Star Wars] theatrical posters the main villain looms over the heroes.”
The villainous Darth Maul, Darth Vader, and Kylo Ren loom over all the heroes in the previous Star Wars movie posters.
Zeroh continued: “Now as we go into Star Wars The Last Jedi, we have Luke Skywalker himself looming over.
“What’s going on here? Did Luke Skywalker turn to the Dark Side? Is he the villain in The Last Jedi?
“I don’t think he will be the villain, but I do think that Luke Skywalker will at some point in time be perceived as a villain through Rey’s point of view.
“He’s maybe seen as a villain for some revelations to come to light of past events that actually reveal some of the actions by Luke Skywalker – maybe even some of the mistakes from back in the day for all we know.”
Fans will have noticed that although he’s looming in The Last Jedi poster, he does have the glow of both Rey and Kylo Ren’s lightsabers on his face, suggesting he’s conflicted. After all he appears on both the Light and Dark side IMAX posters.
Zeroh added: “It’s as if he’s battling between both the Light and the Dark Side.
“Maybe he burned down his own Jedi Temple and killed his own students. Maybe that’s one of the revelations.
“Maybe that shocks Rey and maybe that’s what turned Kylo Ren to the Dark Side for all we know.”
