Recently, we’ve seen a lot of new women call-ups from NXT to the main roster and many speculated that this was because the WWE was preparing for a Women’s Royal Rumble match, but just a couple of weeks ago The Sun reported that wasn’t the case and the WWE was not interested in a Women’s Rumble Match.

Tonight saw the return of Stephanie McMahon on Monday Night Raw and she had quite a historical announcement to make. Here’s what McMahon had to say to ESPN.

“Every time our women have had the chance to perform and headline, they have over-delivered, and I have absolutely every confidence that they will do the same thing at the Royal Rumble on Jan. 28. I think that it will be incredibly memorable, I think that they will over-deliver, and I think that fans will get more than their money’s worth.”

The level of female talent in the WWE has never been better and in the last few years, they’ve been breaking barriers in professional wrestling. The women have been stealing shows and putting on some of the best matches such as Sasha Banks vs. Bayley at NXT Takeover Brooklyn. Having the women compete in a Royal Rumble match is much-deserved something fans have been wanting. We don’t know how many women will be in the match or if it’s going to include the women of Smackdown, but there are rumblings (no pun intended) that we could see the debut of Ronda Rousey in the Royal Rumble match.

Hopefully, we’ll find out more on Smackdown tomorrow night, but if you want to catch up on our thoughts of Clash of Champions check out Call It In The Ring, our Wrestling show on YouTube.
