I would be lying if I told you I had any idea why Five Nights At Freddy’s is so popular. I compare it to Minecraft, kids love it but anyone else just doesn’t get the appeal.
The premise of the games is simple: the player steps into the role of a security officer at a Chuck E. Cheese’s-esque establishment where the animatronic critters come to life and haunt the building at night. Your goal is simply to survive the night.
It’s essentially become a viral sensation with kids and has produced six titles. Again, I don’t get it.
Someone that does get it and wants to cash in on the Freddy cash machine is Blumhouse. It was revealed last March that they purchased the rights from New Line and were waiting to find the perfect director and writer for the project.
Looks like they finally did, and boy is he perfect.
Chris Columbus will be Writing and Directing Five Nights. He’s created some of my favorite films of my childhood like Gremlins, The Goonies, and Home Alone to name a few. And don’t forget the Harry Potter films.
Game creator Scott Cawthon will be producing as well, alongside Blumhouse’s Jason Blum.
