As part of its new streaming service set to debut in 2019, Disney has been at work developing a live-action Star Wars series. As of today, we know who’s been tapped to do the heavy lifting: Jon Favreau, who directed and produced Jungle Book and is currently working on the live-action Lion King remake, will write and produce the series!

No details about the series have been made available at this time, but we know that the studio has been working on bringing Star Wars to series for several years. With Favreau now on board, perhaps we’ll get some details in the near future.
“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure,” said Favreau of his upcoming project. Lucasfilm head honcho Kathleen Kennedy added that, “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
