Now that SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY is finally coming out, it’s safe to say that the Star Wars universe will go into super hyperspace. On top of next years Episode IX, we have STAR WARS: Galaxies Edge finally opening at both major Disney parks and we already know Rian Johnson is making a whole new Trilogy which in it’s own is exciting. But now we have some big things coming in the TV front. With Dave Feloni’s all new animated series Resistance coming this fall and the creators of Fame Of Thrones creating a Star Wars series also the other major project I’m excited about hands down would be Jon Favreau’s new series he’s making for the all new Disney streaming service.
Not much has been revealed about the series, actually nothing has been mentioned until now. While walking the red carpet for the SOLO film where he cameos in he dropped a few hints of his new show. According to Favreau, the series that he will be writing and executive producing will feature new characters, and be set seven years after the events of Return of the Jedi. Now not much is known after ROTJ canon wise so this seems like the perfect opportunity for Favreau to really sink his teeth into something special here. Maybe we go back to Endor? Maybe we will some familiar characters? Either way there is still a TON os stories to tell in the Star Wars universe and I honestly can’t think of a better writer/director to take us exploring there.
When news that Favreau would be helming his own Star Wars series came out Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had this to say about the director. “I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said upon the announcement. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
