Since the announcement of The Mandalorian fans are excited to see a show through the eyes of a bounty hunter. But this show has also stirred up a highly talked about question. Are Jango and Boba Fett Mandalorian? Throughout the STAR WARS saga, we see both of them in Mandalorian armor, but does that truly make them Mandalorian warriors?

Fett

The Mandalorian

The new Disney+ live-action series The Mandalorian does not do much to help us answer that question as of yet. When reading the synopsis you maybe lead to believe that they are. It says:

“The travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic. After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order.”

So, by this they could be Mandalorian. I mean why would they tell stories of Jango and Boba Fett if they were not? So if we can’t tell by this maybe the armor will give us a answer.

Each Fett wore the Armor , but does it make the Mandalorian?

Both Jango and Boba Fett wear the Mandalorian armor. Jango with his blue and silver and Boba with his green and red armor they both look the part of a Mandalorian warrior. But all because they have the armor, it still does not make them part of the Mandalorian race. So, what is the answer?

Fett

The Clone Wars

STAR WARS: The Clone Wars may have given us our first true canon answer. In season 2 episode 12 “The Mandalore Plot” we get Obi-Wan Kenobi talking with Prime Minister Almec of Mandalore. They were discussing a pot against the Jedi and Obi-Wan disagrees with Almec and tells him that the “New Mandalore” is acting like their violent warriors of the past. Then Master Kenobi brings up Jango Fett and Prime Minster Almec becomes angered and says:

“Jango Fett was a common bounty hunter. How he acquired that armor is beyond me.”

So, the question now is was Prime Minister Almec trying to throw Master Kenobi off, or is he telling the truth. So, if it is the truth then Jango Fett is not a Mandalorian. Then if Jango is not Mandalorian then that would make Boba Fett not as well. Watch the clip below to see what you think?

What does STAR WARS say about the Fett Family?

Well Fett fans it looks like The Clone Wars theory is correct. The official Star Wars Twitter account had this to say about a Boba Fett question that @dartheli asked:

“why doesn’t Boba Fett claim the darksaber as his own?”

@Starwars then responds:

“According to Prime Minister Almec, (Clone Wars episode “The Mandalore Plot”), Jango Fett (and by extension, his son) aren’t actually Mandalorians, they just wear Mandalorian armor. Therefore, the darksaber would have no significance to them.”
