Rumors abound of the next Assassin’s Creed game’s setting. Many of us have been hoping for an Asian setting. This time though, it appears that we’re still not straying far from Europe, considering where the Third Crusade takes place.

The return of Altair?

French YouTuber j0nathan has offered us many Assassin’s Creed rumors that turned out to be correct. This time is likely no different. This latest set of rumors, as delivered by Comic Book, hint that the next mainline Assassin’s Creed game will take place sometime after the Third Crusade, which took place mostly in the Levant and Anatolia regions in 1189-1192. Specifically, the rumors hint that the game will take place between 1191-1199, which means the tail end of the Third Crusade as well as the aftermath. Also hinted is the appearance of Richard I of England (aka. Richard the Lionheart), and various cities like Paris, Cologne, Corfu, Vienna, Acre, and Dubrovnik. Most importantly though, it appears that the main character will be a new guy named Edmund. And that’s it as far as the rumors go.

Given that these are rumors though, however reliable the source, take it with a grain of salt until we get official confirmation from Ubisoft about this hypothetical future Assassin’s Creed game.

Assassin’s Creed: Crusader?

Our hero in his armor, perhaps?

Although the disappointment at the lack of an Asian setting is real, there is still some hope yet for this as-of-yet unnamed Assassin’s Creed game. The timeline and setting strongly suggests that we might get to see Altair Ibn-La’Ahad again. For those of you unfamiliar with that name, he’s the main character from the very first and original Assassin’s Creed. It’d be a very interesting callback to that game if he did appear, actually.

Funnily enough though, the rumors about Assassin’s Creed suggest that even if Altair appears, he might very well be your enemy. Edmund is an English name, which suggests that you’ll be an English Crusader joining in on this holy war. Granted, this is speculation on rumors. Take it with as much salt as you’d like.

Conclusion

The latest Assassin’s Creed rumors hint that the next game will take place during the Third Crusade and a bit beyond. Not to mention, those same rumors hint that you’ll be playing as an English Crusader in this future game. That said though, take these rumors with a grain of salt until we get actual confirmation from Ubisoft.
