Can you trust your memories? When Fredrick Fitzell starts having horrific visions of a girl who vanished, he begins to doubt his own memory of high school.

Check out the trailer for Lionsgate’s mind-bending thriller Flashback below.

The film stars Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf, The Maze Runner) as Fredrick Fitzell. Frederick is living his best life…until he starts having horrific visions of Cindy (Maika Monroe, It Follows), a girl he used to hang out with in high school who mysteriously vanished. Desperate to uncover his past and figure out what happened to Cindy, Frederick reaches out to old friends with whom he used to take a mystery drug called Mercury. He soon realizes the only way to stop the visions lies deep within his own memories. Flashback tells the mind-bending, thrilling tale of Fredrick’s mental odyssey to learn the truth.

Based on the trailer, “mind-bending” looks like an apt description. You can definitely spot a lot of Matrix-like elements here, with the whole pills-and-unreality angle. Cindy’s ominous comment about people living “in a prison they forgot that they’re in”? Fredrick yelling that he’s “not even here right now”? Yup, this one is going to mess with your head (hopefully in a good way).

Christopher MacBride wrote and directed the film, which also stars Hannah Gross, Emory Cohen, and Keir Gilchrist.
