You know that the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, is just an excuse to have the biggest crossover fighting game, right? Well, it’s now time for the last such crossover for the game, and that would be with Kingdom Hearts in the form of our hero Sora. Check out his trailer below:

For a moment, I thought it was secretly a Dark Souls crossover.

Nintendo are proud to officially unveil Sora from Kingdom Hearts as the final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate via this trailer. Yes, you heard that right, he will be the last DLC character for the game, period. Specifically, Sora will be part of the Challenger Pack 11 DLC, and will become available on October 18, 2021.

You can purchase Challenger Pack 11 individually for $5.99 USD or $7.55 CAD when it comes out, or you can purchase it as part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 for $29.99 USD or $37.79 CAD. Fighters Pass Vol. 2 also contains a bunch of other DLC characters, including Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. You can check out both options at the official DLC shop for Super Smash Bros. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Sora Details

Sora Is Finally Here!
Now here to make Kingdom Heart‘s convoluted story even more so!

So far as Nintendo have demonstrated, all of Sora’s attacks in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are inspired by his attacks in Kingdom Hearts. Sora’s normal attacks feature him using the Keyblade, including in that classic 3-swing combo from the Kingdom Hearts games. In addition to that though, Sora can also use Kingdom Hearts magic as his special attacks. Specifically: Firaga, Thundaga, and Blizzaga. You can check out a full description of his attacks in the gameplay video from Nintendo below:

All the Kingdom Hearts nostalgia you could ever want.

It’s not just Sora who’s going to be new to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate though. Challenger Pack 11 also contains a new stage for the game: Hollow Bastion, inspired the haunting castle of the same name from Kingdom Hearts. The stage contains a single central platform with various combinations of floating platforms above it. The background though dynamically changes as the battle progresses. It initially features Hollow Bastion itself, but if the time or stocks start to run low, the background transitions to scenes inspired by the Dive to the Heart areas in Kingdom Hearts. You might see a bunch of familiar faces at this stage, so pay attention close, but not too closely lest you get distracted and get blasted off while you admire the scenery.

Upcoming Hollow Bastion stage from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Hard not to stand there and gawk though.

Conclusion

Nintendo finally unveils Sora from Kingdom Hearts as their last DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The DLC he’s in also contains a new stage inspired by Kingdom Hearts: Hollow Bastion. However, neither of them are actually in the game yet. You’ll have to wait for October 18, 2021 to see both of them in action on the Nintendo Switch.
