Amazon looks like they want to drum up hype for their The Wheel of Time series at New York Comic-Con 2021. Why else would they release a first look for the series in the form of the clip below?

Nice build-up of tension, but now what happens next?

In addition to that clip from the Winespring Inn, Amazon also has some more news about The Wheel of Time for us today from NYCC 2021. You know how Amazon ordered a 2nd season even before they premiere the 1st? Well, showrunner Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hemlock Grove) have just decided to release a lit of new cast members who will join us for that 2nd season.

Apparently, Ceara Coveney (Dad, The Amazing World of Emma) will join The Wheel of Time as a series regular. She will portray fan-favorite character Elayne Trakand. Meanwhile, Natasha O’Keeffe (Peaky Blinders, Misfits) and Meera Syal (The Kumars at No. 42, Broadchurch) will also join the show as series regulars. Unfortunately, neither Rafe Judkins nor Amazon are disclosing their roles at this time. We’ll just have to guess until we get official info from them.

Definitely looks like a proper high fantasy to me.

Some of you might never have heard of The Wheel of Time before, or at least, have never read the books, like me. To summarize: it’s a series of high fantasy novels by Robert Jordan, with Brandon Sanderson co-authoring the last 3 books using Jordan’s notes after he passed away in September 2007. There is a lot of lore surrounding this 14-book epic, totaling over 4.4 million words of text. I’ll just let Amazon Studios keep you informed with their official synopsis:

The Wheel of Time is one of the most popular and enduring fantasy series of all-time, with over 90 million books sold. Set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it, the story follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

Conclusion

Amazon Studios just released a first look clip at their upcoming The Wheel of Time series, based on Robert Jordan’s (and Brandon Sanderson for the last 3 books) high fantasy novels of the same name. The clip shows a location called the Winespring Inn, and the appearance of main character Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) in a highly charismatic role. Amazon is also taking the time to reveal a list of new cast for season 2. Ceara Coveney will join the cast as Elayne Trakand, while Natasha O’Keeffe and Meera Syal will be in undisclosed roles. If you’re interested, check out the show on Amazon Prime Video on November 19, 2021.
