BAD VEGAN: FAME. FRAUD. FUGITIVES

BAD VEGAN: FAME. FRAUD. FUGITIVES. promises to take viewers on a journey more bizarre than fiction. This is a 4 part documentary series following New York’s strangest scandal about millions of stolen dollars, immortal dogs, and a twisted tale of a love-turned criminal.

The documentary follows Sarma Melngailis. Melngailis is the celebrity restaurateur behind New York hotspot Pure Food and Wine, who went from being the queen of vegan cuisine to being known as the “Vegan Fugitive.” Shortly after meeting Shane Fox on Twitter in 2011, he cons her into believing he could make her dreams come true with a catch. She must obey his every request without question. So, Melngailis begins draining her restaurant’s funds and funneling money to Fox. A few years later, the couple – now married and on the lam after stealing almost $2 million from the restaurant – are found in a Tennessee motel by law enforcement. How? A charge made under Fox’s real name, Anthony Stangis…for Domino’s pizza.
