Well, it appears that someone is trying really hard to hype up Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night. Why else would this SAO anime film get an epic IMAX poster? Don’t believe me? Then check it out for yourself below:

Crouching Colossus, Not So Hidden Boss?

"Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night" IMAX poster.
Man, this would be a really awkward angle if that boss had been anatomically accurate.

The official Twitter account of the Sword Art Online anime recently revealed that new IMAX poster for Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night above. The poster prominently stars the boss of the anime film, which goes by the name “Fuscus the Vacant Colossus”. I mean, seriously, this boss takes up 4/5 of the entire poster. You have to scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the poster just to see Asuna and Kirito charging into battle against it. If you were to speculate on this anime film’s story based solely on that poster alone, you would think that the Colossus is the true star of the show rather than our main characters.

Well, they do say that any good story needs a good villain. This Colossus certainly looks the part. Now all that’s left to do is wait and see if it lives up to the on the big screen. Which won’t be long, apparently. According to that Twitter post, Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night will make its theatrical debut on September 10, 2022. Unfortunately, this release date is for Japan only. As of this writing, there’s no word as to a NA release date. We’ll just have to hope that someone licenses this anime film for that at a later date. Tune in later to find out when we do.

Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night ~ Details

Visually impressive, as SAO usually is. Now I just wish Asuna was on the thumbnail.

Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night is the anime film sequel to Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night, which is itself the anime film adaptation of Sword Art Online Progressive, which in turn is a spinoff light novel series (starring the theoretical female co-lead Asuna Yuuki) to the main Sword Art Online light novels by Reki Kawahara (Accel World). Unfortunately, we don’t have any official information about production details. That’s something you’re going to have to wait for later, just like we do.

Heck, the closest thing we have to an official synopsis for Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night is from Comic Book. Check it out below:

“It’s been just two months since they were trapped in the game of death that is Sword Art Online, and Kirito and Asuna continue their struggle at the vanguard of progress through the game. The fifth floor of Aincrad is a mazelike ruin, and the two dare to take pleasure in raiding it for the treasure it contains. Upon returning to the fourth floor, it’s time to do some questing on behalf of the Elf Lord Yofilis–but here begins Asuna’s discontent, for in doing so they will have to face her least favorite monster ever…”
