Did anyone think that 2007’s Enchanted would ever get a sequel? I certainly didn’t, and yet D23 has proved me wrong to my very pleasant surprise with a trailer for that very sequel: Disenchanted. Don’t believe me? Then check out the trailer for it below, and believe for yourself:

There’s More To Life Than a Happy Ending

As it turns out: a happily ever after is a lot harder than it looks.

Walt Disney Studios posted this trailer for Disenchanted on YouTube during 2022’s D23 event. Said trailer shows Giselle 15 years after the events of Enchanted, and living…not quite the Disney princess life she dreamed of. As it turns out, modern day Earth has very little in common with a classic Disney fantasy film. So Giselle falls to temptation when her fantasy kingdom relatives visit, and bring her magic to play with to make things on Earth “better”. From the looks of things though, “better” is a highly subjective experience. I suspect Giselle will become acutely aware of this for the climax of this film. We’ll just have to see when we actually get to see it.

Fortunately though, we won’t have to wait that long to do so. At the very end of the trailer, it reveals that Disenchanted will head straight to Disney+ on November 24, 2022. No theatrical release for this Disney film, it seems. Either way though, you still have to shell out cash for a Disney+ account to watch this film. Which is a bit more than usual thanks to Disney’s price hike, but unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about it other than grumble and pay up, or wait for a special offer.

Disenchanted: Details

"Disenchanted" key art.
Why does every Disney princess film have an evil stepmother in it?

Disenchanted is the sequel to the 2007 hybrid live action and animated musical fantasy romantic comedy film Enchanted. Adam Shankman is the director this time, with Brigitte Hales screenwriting, and with a story by David N. Weiss, J. David Stem, and Richard LaGravenese. Simon Duggan is responsible for cinematography, with Alan Menken composing the music. Disney+ is handling distribution.

As for what Disenchanted is about? Well, that very trailer for it has an official synopsis for it in the video description. Check it out below:

“It has been 15 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.”
