Paramount have finally announced who will be voicing the titular role in their upcoming live-action/CGI hybrid film and it is Ben Schwartz.
Ben Schwartz is a director, actor and comedian with his best known role being Jean-Ralphio Saperstein in Parks and Recreation. Ben has been known to voice iconic characters in the past having provided his voice for Leonardo in an incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and will be able to show off some more of his comedy chops in the upcoming Kevin Hart/Tiffany Haddish comedy Night School. Ben seems to be a fun and energetic choice which is a perfect fit for the blue blur.
The only details we know surrounding the film is that James Marsden will be playing a live action companion of Sonic throughout the film, we have seen a few shots of him via recent set photos that have released as the movie is now shooting. We also have learned that Jim Carrey will be playing the iconic Dr. Ivo Robotnik in the movie although we are not quite sure as to whether he will be playing him in live-action, voicing him, or maybe even a combination of both.
This is yet another run at a video game adaption into film and we have never seen anything quite like this before for a video game adaption which could make an interesting take and something that may work. The film will be helmed by first time feature film director Jeff Fowler who previously directed the OSCAR nominated 2005 short Gopher Broke. We also know that Deadpool’s Tim Miller is on as an executive producer. The film is set to arrive in theatres November 15th 2019.
