Why Solo Matters: A Star Wars Story in the Grand Scheme

What Solo Shows Us.

While the main Star Wars saga tells us about the evilness of the Empire, we don’t really get to witness it first-hand (destruction of Alderaan aside). Most of the conflict shown on film thus far is between the Empire/First Order and established Rebel/Resistance Alliances. Solo illustrates just how deeply the actions of the Empire and the crime syndicates affect the ordinary citizens of the galaxy, such as rampant poverty and oppression on Corellia and a world scourged in Mimban.

Solo Matters

Solo also tells the story of how a young girl, desperate to fight back against the tyranny that’s overcome her world, comes to lead a band of pirates. Enfys Nest and the Cloud Riders demonstrate the lengths to which the oppressed must and will go simply to survive.
