It was an weird and exciting day for fans of Henry Cavill and Superman, but as the dust continues to settle we find ourselves right back where we started. The rumblings began at about 7am Wednesday morning when the Hollywood Reporter announced that Cavill was hanging up his red cape and boots, walking away from his Roll as the Last Son of Krypton. These rumblings soon became an earthquake as site after site picked up the news and ran with it.
Warner Bros didn’t do anything to help the matter, replaying to THR with a vague statement, “While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged”

Way to say nothing to dissuade the rumors, WB!
Anyway, finally we got a piece of hard evidence from Canvill’s rep who posted, “Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. @wbpictures has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe. Anticipate a WB statement later today.”

Clarifying that Cavill is still in the closet… er… still Superman. But this roller coaster ride isn’t over just yet. Cavill, then tosses a strange cryptic (Kryptic?) instragram of him wearing a “Krypton Lifting Team Shirt” while Donauwalzer’s Blue Danube Waltz plays with Dog’s barking along in the background as he slooooowly raises a Superman toy (in the box) of himself. Then lowers it again.
It was an exciting day, Henry!
Many seem confused about what the meaning behind this wacky post means, but coupled with his rep’s response, I think it’s clear that he’s just trolling us and is still Superman. Or at least, he’s contracted to be.
Here’s the reality folks, the actor Henry Cavill is contracted for 4 Superman movies and has completed 3. Now, if he appears in Shazam! (April 5th) Or Supergirl (In development) then his contract is complete and Warner Bros can re-cast him to their heart’s content with out paying a hefty fine. A secondary option would be to wait the contract out, most contracts expire within 3-5 years and without a Superman movie or appearance slated for at least 5 to 7 years down the road, why would Warner Bros even think to back out of their contract? If they wanted to get rid of Cavill for whatever reason, they have two solid options without causing a stir among fans in the near future and having to pay-off Cavill. Even if they intend to use him or not, it doesn’t make any sense to announce he’s not Superman anymore… at least yet.
