A Year of STAR WARS Controversies: Can the Franchise Recover?

Star Wars Controversies

Sexist and racist harassment drove Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico of ‘The Last Jedi’) to delete all her social media accounts.

The common denominator to all of the aforementioned Star Wars controversies is, without question, the fans. Obviously the fans will be affected by whatever happens with the franchise. Notwithstanding, this particular controversy stems more from how fans are affecting the franchise, not the other way around. “Fans” have driven Kelly Marie Tran and Daisy Ridley off social media, threatened Rian Johnson’s life, and are boycotting films. Social media platforms have become wastelands of negativity. Granted, much of this comes from a vocal minority, but discord permeates the fan base and grows like a fungus on the foundation of the franchise. What can be done to stop it?

Tell us your thoughts on these Star Wars controversies, and how you would fix them. You can comment here, on Facebook, or reply to me once I post this on Twitter. I’ll be following up with your thoughts and mine later this week.
