As Marvel shows such as Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist find themselves being canceled, Netflix is ramping up production on their Millarworld properties. First announced in July, Netflix and comic creator Mark Millar are working to bring adaptations of several of his properties to life. Among them are Jupiter’s Legacy and American Jesus, which will be adapted as series, and film versions of Huck, Empress and Sharky the Bounty Hunter. In August, showrunner and writer Steven DeKnight (Daredevil) was revealed to be heading up work on Jupiter’s Legacy and now it appears that it will be the first of the Millarworld properties to hit Netflix and we have some interesting details.

A multi-generational superhero epic, Jupiter’s Legacy follows the world’s first generation of superheroes who received their powers in the 1930s. In present day, they are the revered elder guard, but their superpowered children struggle to live up to the legendary feats of their parents. The first season of series will consist of 8, one-hour episodes.

Netflix is eyeing an April 2019 start to production and are still deciding on a location, though Chicago and Pittsburgh are thought to be high on their list. With filming a little over 5 months away, the studio is looking to start filling roles for the project and they’ve turned their attention to Eric Bana and Pablo Schreiber to lead the adaptation. Bana and Schreiber would would play brothers Sheldon and Walter Sampson, two of those first generation superheroes known as The Utopian and Brainwave, who founded the superhero team known as the Union of Justice. The series will follow the brothers both in the past and in present day, meaning the actors will need to be “aged” for parts of the show. The show will also feature Sheldon’s wife Grace, aka Lady Liberty, their son Brandon, aka Paragon, and their supermodel daughter Chloe. At this time, Netflix is looking at a list of actresses that includes Morena Baccarin and Carrie Coon for the role of Grace.

With a spring start date set, we should find out much more about casting in the near future so we’ll keep you updated as the story develops.
