Last month brought us casting news that Emma Watson was the among the front runners for a lead role in ʻBlack Widowʼ. There has been no additional news, however, either confirming her involvement or suggesting she is no longer being considered.  Notwithstanding, we did receive news confirming two new actors joining this long-awaited ‘Black Widow’ film.

Variety reported that Oscar nominee Rachel Weisz is in early talks join Scarlett Johansson in Marvel’s Black Widow standalone movie. granted, that same articles notes that a deal has not yet been completed,with the The Mummy and Constantine actress. Notwithstanding, they did say that “talks are headed in that direction, with strong interest from both sides of negotiations.”

Meanwhile over at The Hollywood Reporter, they broke news that David Harbour will be joining the cast. Harbour should be no stranger to anyone who has been a fan of just about any major pop culture of the last several years.  He is Jim Hopper in Netflix’s Stranger Things. He also had a small role in Suicide Squad and is in the upcoming Hellboy reboot.

So what do we know about the film?


Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow

To this point most of what we have about the film are just rumors.  The most prevalent one being that the film will be a prequel, taking us back when Natasha was just starting out as a spy. We do know that Scarlett Johansson will be reprising her role she’s been playing since Iron Man 2.  It has also been confirmed that Florence Pugh is also part of the cast in an undisclosed role and Cate Shortland is directing from a script by Jac Schaeffer.

There is currently no release date yet for this Phase 4 MCU film.  Do not panic though, Johansson’s Black Widow can be seen very soon in Avengers: Endgame, hitting theaters on April 26.
