With Disney announcing that it was going to be taking a hiatus from Star Wars movies after The Rise of Skywalker, we were not sure when we would see the next movie on the big screen. Well guess what, Disney answered that question for us today.

Star Wars

New Slate of Star Wars Movies

Disney has announced that we will see a new set of Star Wars movies in the near future. They will be released in 2022, 2024, and 2026. Here is the official press release from Disney:

Star Wars
The Mandalorian and Cassian Andor are coming to Disney+

“The updated calendar also sets release dates for major franchises Avatar and Star Wars. With STAR WARS: The Rise of Skywalker bringing the original Skywalker Saga to its conclusion, three new as-yet-untitled Star Wars films will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2022.”

Who will be the director?

So now with this announcement and all the Disney+ news, fans are looking to be getting plenty of content for the next few years. The real question is who will be bringing us this movie content?

Here is what we know. Rian Johnson the director of The Last Jedi is still working on a new trilogy project. This definitely is not one of the most popular choices with some of fan base. The other option out there are the directors from Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Many fans are hoping this will be the Knights of the Old Republic series that Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that is a project in development. What ever it is this announcement should be getting Star Wars fans excited for the future.
