Variety is reporting that Paul Dano is in talks to be the Riddler for Matt Reeves’ The Batman. This wasn’t the casting choice that many thought for the role. Most of the prospective or fan dream choices were names like: Neil Patrick Harris, Jimmi Simpson, Jonah Hill, or other comedic actors. This choice comes out of nowhere from Warner Bros. Then again, the casting of Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader was also an “out of left field” choice.

Most might think that The Riddler has to be silly and comedic based on the Jim Carrey portrayal from the crap-tastic Batman Forever. The character is much more sinister and calculated than that. After some thought, Dano definitely has the look for the character. If Matt Reeves intention with The Batman is to go for a more visceral and realistic Batman, then this is his man.

Details About The Batman and It’s New Riddler

There isn’t much known at the moment about The Batman yet. It has a release date of June 25, 2021. Filming and pre-production hasn’t begun either. So the casting news should trickle out bit by bit. Paul Dano has a pretty accomplished film career with credits in: 12 Years a Slave, Looper, There Will Be Blood, and Little Miss Sunshine. So I don’t doubt his acting chops. That’s probably telling about how Reeves is going to take The Batman more than anything. Word is that Warner had an offer ready for Dano, even after Jonah Hill had passed on whatever role he was in the running for. So they wanted him, and now they’ve got him for the part.
