The episodic Star Wars saga has come to an end. And, despite what so-called critics had to say, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was a billion dollar success. Now that it’s been out a couple months, many fans are wondering when they’ll be able to add Episode IX to their personal libraries. There previously hadn’t been and official word from Lucasfilm and Disney. But…. it seems we may now have it. And, to confirm, a major retailer listed the Rise of Skywalker Blu-ray release date on its website.
A quick perusal of the three big retailers in the U.S. (Walmart, Best Buy and Target) previously indicated that the Rise of Skywalker Blu-ray release date could occur as early as next month. That, of course, also suggested that the digital release could come even sooner than that. Take a look at the Rise of Skywalker pre-order image below.
Rise of Skywalker Blu-ray releasing March 31, on Digital March 17
Based on the video and images above it appears that Rey, Kylo Ren and company are indeed coming home in March. Episode IX will be available March 17 on Digital and March 31 on Blu-ray. This confirmation of the Rise of Skywalker Blu-ray and Digital releases puts them pretty much in keeping with major studio standard practices, too. Joker, for instance, hit theaters in early October. It arrived on digital mid-December and on Blu-ray in early January. That was almost exactly three months to the day of its theatrical release.
The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Blu-ray release looks to be chocked full of extras, including multiple bonus discs. The Target exclusive also appears to include an illustrated book featuring images from the film. The movie will, of course, be available at any, and let’s face it, pretty much all other retailers. It all depends on what special features you want. The Target box cover art, featuring Rey and a looming Kylo Ren, is certainly impressive.
So get your pre-orders ready! The Rise of Skywalker arrives on Digital March 17 and on Blu-ray March 31, 2020.
