There are a lot of things we can say about the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. So, so many things…. Over the years the televised event has grown into a “cult classic,” epic for its sheer awfulness. To its credit, however, it did give us one of the most iconic characters in all of Star Wars. The best part of the special is without question the animated short, The Story of the Faithful Wookie. (If you’ve never seen it, it is available on Disney+.) It was there where we first met our favorite bounty hunter. Hallmark is now commemorating the animated Boba Fett with a 2021 convention exclusive ornament.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over four decades since Fett made his way into Star Wars lore. The character has obviously morphed over time, most notably in the color of his armor. The original, animated Boba Fett bore a pale blue helmet and canary yellow chest plate, for example. Now, of course, he dons the green and red armor we’ve seen since Return of the Jedi. (It even got a paint job in advance of the upcoming series, The Book of Boba Fett.) Notwithstanding the changes, the original version still holds a (holiday) special place in our hearts.
