The Old Guard stormed Netflix as one of the streamer’s most popular original films ever. Now, we have new details about who’s involved in the upcoming sequel.

First, the original core cast members have been confirmed to appear in The Old Guard 2. Expect to see Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor once again.

In addition, Deadline reports Netflix tapped Victoria Mahoney to direct the film. Mahoney previously worked with J.J. Abrams as second unit director on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. She also directed episodes of Lovecraft Country, I Am The Night, Power, and more.

“Genuinely blown backwards by the collective levels of talent, skill and savvy that went into carving The Old Guard,” Mahoney said. “I must’ve watched it over a hundred times, and as such, cannot communicate the true measure of my excitement–being invited on The Old Guard journey alongside ferocious badasses.”

Mahoney steps in for Gina Prince-Blythewood, who directed the first film. Prince-Blythewood had scheduling conflicts with other jobs that prevented her from directing The Old Guard 2, though she will remain on board the project as a producer.

“I love The Old Guard  and the story and characters I was honored to put into the world. It was exciting to disrupt the genre,” said Prince-Bythewood. “I have decided not to direct the sequel, but will stay on as a producer. I leave our franchise in good hands as my girl Vic Mahoney takes on this next chapter.”

The Netflix films adapt the graphic novel series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández. The story follows a team of immortal mercenaries who must fight to keep their identity a secret. Rucka will write the sequel film and serve as an executive producer on the project.

Netflix has not yet announced a potential release date for The Old Guard 2.
