With a star-studded cast, and magical journey Netflix’s Riverdance: The Animated Adventure puts a new spin on the Irish Dance.

WHAT IS RIVERDANCE?

If you are a Millenial you have heard of Riverdance. Whether it’s from a late-night TV Advertisement or your Grandparents were obsessed with the VHS. Riverdance is a stage show that consists of traditional Irish music and dance. It has visited over 450 venues worldwide and has been seen by over 25 million people, making it one of the most successful dance productions ever!

The production celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020. And now with an animated adventure, Riverdance is hoping to introduce itself to a whole new generation in a fun and different way.

RIVERDANCE: THE ANIMATED ADVENTURE

The animated film tells the story of an Irish boy named Keegan whose grandfather keeps their town safe from the Huntsman as the lighthouse keeper. Grandfather turns on the light in order to ward off the darkness that creeps in from another world.

However, when Keegan’s grandfather hangs up his dancing shoes for good, he is now in charge of the lighthouse but doesn’t believe in the power of the light. So, his best-friend Moya takes Keegan on a journey to the mythical world of the Megaloceros Giganteus. These Irish Elk teach him to appreciate Riverdance, as well as celebrate life.

The cast of this film is HUGE. With Pierce Brosnan pulling double duty as the grandfather and a magical Elk. As well as, Pauline McLynn, Hannah Herman Cortes, Lilly Singh, Jermaine Fowler, and Brendan Gleeson as the Huntsman.

A FUN ADVENTURE WITH DEEPER LESSONS

On the surface, Riverdance: The Animated Adventure seems like a silly story with dancing people, not to mention dancing giant Elk. I mean, they go for it and are just as good as the dancers I remember on my tv growing up. However, this children’s story is also about loss, grief, light, and darkness. It teaches how we continue moving forward and not to give in to our fears.

The Huntsman villain isn’t too scary, and the Elk are absolutely hilarious and dancing queens. If you’re in the mood to put on your dancing shoes make sure to give this movie a watch.
