Any of you are fans of the Pacific Rim: The Black anime series on Netflix? Well, Legendary Comics is here for you all in the form of a graphic novel that tells the story before the events of the anime. Presumably telling the story of how Australia turned into a weird hybrid of Godzilla and Mad Max.

Wait, aren’t those Jaegers supposed to have 2 pilots? Where’s the other pilot?

Legendary Comics is proud to announce its new graphic novel: Pacific Rim: Blackout. This is a companion graphic novel to the Pacific Rim: The Black anime from Netflix. The graphic novel will serve as a prequel to the events of the anime. It features Cavan Scott (Star Wars: The High Republic, Shadow Service) as the writer and Nelson Dániel (Detective Pikachu, TMNT, Clue) as the artist. As for the plot? Well, Legendary Comics has a teaser for us today below:

“The PPDC Ranger returns as a world-weary jaeger pilot dragged into battle as an influx of kaiju threatens to destroy the Australian continent and all its inhabitants. Along with his niece Olivia, his copilot Cooper, and Marshal Rask, Herc faces brand-new kaiju of epic proportions while battling his own inner demons.”

Pacific Rim: Blackout went on sale on February 22, 2022. You can purchase this graphic novel on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indie Bound, or your local comic book shop. The retail price for all is $19.99, so it’s not that expensive a purchase. If you’re a fan of the Netflix anime or of the original 2013 film, this might be something for you.
