You may have been wondering when we would get to see Disney‘s reboot of Haunted Mansion? You know, the one without Eddie Murphy? Well, wonder no longer, for we finally have a release date!

Maybe It Should Be a Haunting Date Instead?

"The Haunted Mansion" 2003 theatrical poster.
I actually liked this film, but it might’ve been more due to Eddie Murphy than anything else.

Comic Book is reporting that Haunted Mansion finally has a release date. Apparently, we’ll get to see if Rosario Dawson can outperform Eddie Murphy on March 10, 2023, presumably on Disney+. As you can tell, it’s a pretty long way away before we finally get to see if it can make it past the 13% score on Rotten Tomatoes the original 2003 film received. Heck, even the average audience only gave it 30% averaged over 100k reviews, so it’s a pretty low bar to hurdle. If this reboot can’t even beat that, I would be sorely disappointed.

Haunted Mansion Reboot: Details

The closest we have until we get an actual trailer for it.

Aside from that release date, we don’t actually know all that much about this Haunted Mansion reboot film. We know that it’s based on the Disneyland ride of the same name, just like all of the film adaptations like Muppets Haunted Mansion above. This particular reboot, however, stars Rosario Dawson as Gabbie, Tiffany Haddish as Harriet, Lakeith Stanfield as Ben Matthias, Owen Wilson as an unnamed priest, and Danny DeVito as an unnamed college history professor.

As for production details, Justin Simien (Dear White People, Bad Hair) directed this Haunted Mansion reboot. Katie Dippold (The Heat, Ghostbusters reboot) wrote the screenplay. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich produced it. All in all, it seems like a recipe for a good film. Or at least, one that will do decently well. At the very least, it’s likely going to be better received than the 2003 version when we finally see it on Disney+. Hopefully.
