Ghostface made a huge comeback this year. And thanks to its success at the box office and with fans, the Scream franchise has been greenlit for a sixth film.

Now we know that film isn’t too far away! Paramount Pictures revealed today it plans to release Scream 6 on March 31, 2023. That’s just over a year away from today.

The directors of the most recent film, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, will return to direct the next horror pic. The duo took over the reins from the late Wes Craven, who directed the first four films in the teen slasher franchise. The script for Scream 6 will come from James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick.

“We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family,” said a statement from Paramount when the sequel was announced.

Legacy cast members Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox have each separately confirmed they are at least aware of the project, though they have not officially confirmed any involvement.

Cox told Just a Variety podcast, “I got the script yesterday. I haven’t read it yet, I just got it… I’m excited to read it, and I know they’re gonna start filming I think in June, in Canada. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say anything. Let me tell you the killer!”

About a month ago, Campbell said she had been approached about Scream 6, but the script hadn’t been completed yet. “Actually, I was supposed to call a producer yesterday, because he wanted to talk to me about what’s going on. You know, we’ll see. I’ll read the script and see how I feel,” she shared during a Mad Monster Party panel.

No word yet on any other potential casting. But with production slated to begin this summer, expect more news to arrive soon.
