AMC just unveiled a first look at its upcoming limited series This Is Going To Hurt.

The comedy-drama adapts Adam Kay’s award-winning memoir of the same name. It sees Ben Whishaw take on the role of Adam, a doctor finding his way through the ranks of hospital hierarchy. He’s junior enough to suffer the crippling hours, but senior enough to face a constant barrage of terrifying responsibilities. Adam clings to his personal life as he is increasingly overwhelmed by stresses at work: the 97-hour weeks, the life-and-death decisions, and all the while knowing the hospital parking meter is earning more than him.

Kay created, wrote, and produced the medical dramedy centered around life on a gynecology and obstetrics ward. In addition to Whishaw, the series stars newcomer Ambika Mod, Michele Austin (The Casual Vacancy), BAFTA-nominee Alex Jennings (The Crown), Kadiff Kirwan (Chewing Gum), Ashley McGuire (This Country), Emmy-nominee Dame Harriet Walter (The Crown), Rory Fleck Byrne (Ghosts), and Tom Durant-Pritchard (Feel Good).

Holly Pullinger produces the series. Lucy Forbes (In My Skin) directs the first four episodes, with Tom Kingsley (Ghosts) directing the final three.
