We spoke to Rodger Bumpass & Carolyn Lawrence, the voices of Spongebob’s Squidward and Sandy. They’re currently voicing these characters on the Paramount + show Nickelodeon’s Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years. It is the first original spinoff of Nickelodeon’s iconic hit show SpongeBob SquarePants and was recently picked up for a second season.

Interview: Rodger Bumpass & Carolyn Lawrence

Both Rodger and Carolyn have been doing voice-over work since the 1980s and have voiced many iconic characters. Rodger Bumpass (Squidward) and Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy) are reprising their iconic roles in this spin-off series. We spoke to them about what it’s been like voicing younger versions of their characters and what their own childhood camp experiences were like.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years

The animated series, Nickelodeon’s Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, follows a 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals as they spend their summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest. This new batch of episodes features Sandy’s first-ever karate chop, the Flying Dutchman’s first fright, and even a visit from Patrick’s dad.

Since its launch on July 17, 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has reigned as the most-watched kids’ animated series for 20 consecutive years. It’s hard to deny the huge cultural impact of the original Spongebob series. The series generated many loved characters. And in addition, has been responsible for many pop culture catchphrases and memes. Not to mention the theatrical releases, a Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical, and a global fan base and merchandising. The Patrick Star Show, the second spinoff of SpongeBob SquarePants, is currently airing on Nickelodeon. And I have no doubt that we will have many more spinoff series based on this universe.

New episodes of Kamp Koral will release on Paramount+ on September 30, 2022.
