While there are many different feelings and opinions fans have about Star Wars, one thing that we can all agree on is that the Force seems to work in mysterious ways. From lifting objects to even healing others it seems there is nothing that you can’t do with the force. But even with all this power, we have also learned that if you are not trained in certain ways of the Force you may have some limitations, like becoming a Force Ghost. Qui-Gon Jinn is a perfect example of this, as we learned in Season 6 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Can Qui-Gon Jinn Show Himself As A Force Ghost?

So why am I bringing this up? Well with the announcement of Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader in the new Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series, there has been a lot of chatter from fans wanting Liam Neeson to reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn. While this would be amazing, it made me start to think, how would we see Qui-Gon in the Kenobi series if he was to return? Would it be flashbacks, in visions, or even has a Force ghost? The flashback or visions would make the most sense, as they would be easy to set up in the story. As for returning as a Force ghost, this might be hard to explain since it was told in Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 6 Voices that Qui-Gon could not achieve physical manifestation since he was unable to finish his training, as you can see in the clip below.

A Manifestation Of The Force

“I am a manifestation of the Force, a Force that consists of two parts. Living beings generate the living Force, which in turn powers the wellspring that is the cosmic Force.” So, because of Qui-Gon finding the key to immortality, we are able to have Force ghosts, but unfortunately, Qui-Gon is unable to appear as an image of himself because his training was incomplete. So, unless they come up with a way he can complete his training in the afterlife, the Force ghost option goes right out the window. He will just have to remain as a voice in the Force,

Didn’t We See Qui-Gon’s Force Ghost On Mortis?

So, now we head back to The Clone Wars Season 3 to episodes Overlords and the Ghosts of Mortis. In these episodes, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka find themselves on the planet Mortis, home to the Father, Daughter, and Son. There we see what appears to be a Force ghost of Qui-Gon speaking with Obi-Wan and then later on with Anakin. When these episodes came out we really didn’t give much thought to Qui-Gon’s appearance as a Force ghost. But, after season 6 that all changed. How could it have been Qui-Gon as a Force Ghost if he never finished his training?

Well, as we know the Force is very strong on Mortis. There the rules of the Force don’t apply like everywhere else. The Father, Daughter, and Son can manipulate the force like no other. We see this throughout the episodes as Anakin also sees visions of his mother and his future self, as well as Ahsoka, seeing a vision of her future self also. Everything that took place on Mortis was used to try to manipulate Anakin on his path to see if he was the chosen one.

So, Will, It Happen?

So will we see Qui-Gon as a Force ghost? Like I said earlier the Force seems to work in mysterious ways. It would be great to see Liam Neeson reprising his role as Qui-Gon Jinn, but it will probably be in the forms of a vision, a flashback, or maybe a new series featuring Qui-Gon. No matter what happens I am excited for all the Star Wars content that is coming our way!
