As it turns out, Michael B. Jordan has something special for us today: a Black Superman project.

Michael B. Jordan himself.
Clearly, he’s ready to play Superman all by himself.

Collider reported on July 23, 2021 that Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed) and his production company Outlier Society are currently working on their own Black Superman project. This project will specifically be for HBO Max only. Said project will be Jordan’s take on the Val-Zod character from DC Comics.

This Black Superman project will be a limited TV series. Michael B. Jordan himself will produce this series, and may even star in it, although we can’t confirm this at this time. In fact, Outlier Society have hired a writer to work on the script for this series, although said writer’s identity is still unknown at this time.

Unfortunately, that’s all the news we have for you for now. We will have to wait for more news from Michael B. Jordan and Outlier Society later.

Michael B. Jordan: The New Superman?

Val-Zod.
Now just imagine Michael B. Jordan’s face here.

Michael B. Jordan’s Black Superman project is actually rather interesting, because Warner Bros. is already working on their own Black Superman film. Said film is currently under production by J. J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot, with a still-unknown black director to direct the film. Said film will also feature an alternate version of Clark Kent who is black instead of his usual white depiction.

Funnily enough, this is exactly why Michael B. Jordan is working on his own Black Superman project. According to Black Girl Nerds, unnamed sources have stated that Jordan didn’t want to take in “racebending” Superman for the same reasons why Warner Bros. own Black Clark Kent project is getting some backlash from the fans. To them, it feels like Warner Bros. is forgetting that Superman characters who are canonically black already exist, and that Warner Bros. is basically trying to erase them from canon.

They do have a point though. With the existence of black Superman characters in DC canon already, it makes no sense to “racebend” Clark Kent. I guess we will just have to see what Warner Bros. actually does with their project, while we wait for Michael B. Jordan to do the same.

Conclusion

Michael B. Jordan and his Outlier Society company are working on a Black Superman project for HBO Max. Specifically, he is making a limited series starring Val-Zod. Jordan himself will produce this series, and he already has a writer working on the script. That’s it for today. We will just have to wait for more news on this subject later.
