Spiderman: No Way Home star, Tom Holland to play Fred Astaire in upcoming BioPic

Who is Fred Astaire?

Fred Astaire considered the best dancer in film history is a true legend of his time. He took Hollywood by storm as a singer, dancer, choreographer, actor, and more. During his time at RKO, he starred in more than 30 film musicals on top of his extensive stage career on Broadway and the West End. Astaire is most remembered for his dancing partnership with Ginger Rogers with whom he co-starred in 10 Hollywood musicals during the age of Classical Hollywood Cinema. Along with Rogers, Astaire starred alongside Bing Crosby, Rita Hayworth, Gene Kelly, and Judy Garland just to name drop a little.

Astaire’s perfectionism is legendary. His relentless insistence during rehearsals, his constant retakes of singing the songs and dancing the number grew tiresome on the cast and crew, but the end results were phenomenal. So, when it comes to casting the right person to take on the taskmaster, iconic dance man it seems has been on the studios’ mind for some time.

Who will play the song and dance icon?

“Oh, I am playing Fred Astaire. The script came in a week ago. I haven’t read it yet; they haven’t given it to me.”

Tom Holland told an AP reporter at the Spider-Man: No Way Home London photocall.

It makes sense. If you’ve seen MTV’s Lip Sync Battle, it should come as no surprise that the top choice to play the iconic song and dance man is Tom Holland. If you don’t think that performance is impressive enough to convince you that he’s got this, before Holland became Spiderman, he was Billy Elliot on London’s West End.

While I know he has the song and dance part down, the harsher side of Astaire I’ve never seen in performance from Holland. But I’m sure I will be pleasantly surprised.
