Lucasfilm Publishing dropped a couple of bombshells at their New York Comic Con panel this past October when it came to new, written Star Wars material. First was the announcement of the mysterious Project Luminous. To the delight of Thrawn fans, they also announced that the blue-skinned Chiss would return in a new, backstory trilogy entitled Thrawn Ascendancy. Book 1, Chaos Rising was originally supposed to drop in early May. Well, we have sad news for you, Timothy Zahn fans. It’s been delayed.

In an official statement from Del Rey, the book’s publisher, we learned that we now won’t see Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising hit bookshelves until October. This comes as a big disappointment for fans. Many were looking to fill the summer void between The Clone Wars’ return next month and Season 2 of The Mandalorian in the fall.

Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising now arrives October 6

Here’s the official statement from Del Rey:

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first. We are moving the release date of Book I: Chaos Rising from May 5th to Oct 6th. We know it is disappointing to have to wait longer for the next Thrawn story. The delay is due to scheduling adjustments, and doesn’t impact the book itself. We’re already working on Book II!

But there is good news too: One thing the scheduling move does, is allow us to experiment in new ways. Since the first Thrawn, we’ve wanted to do something special with our book designs that’s not just available at a convention.

See the attached photo for a glimpse at one of the things we’re exploring to celebrate our favorite Chiss officer. Check out the blue edges!”

So… the new Thrawn book is delayed for five months, but we get blue-edged pages as a trade-off. Forgive us Del Rey, but that’s not much solace.

*sigh*

Sadly, we’ll just have to wait. Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising is, however, still available for pre-order and will be available on October 6th in all formats.
