Chris Evans hung up his shield two years ago… but it might not be for good.

Deadline now reports Evans is in talks to reprise his role as Captain America. Apparently Marvel and Evans are currently working to reach a deal that would allow him to return to the MCU.

We don’t have details yet on what Evans’ reappearance could look like. However, there don’t seem to be any plans for him to return in a Captain America-centric film. Instead, the deal seems to revolve around one or two guest appearances in other productions. (Marvel fans will note similarities to Robert Downey Jr., who “retired” after Iron Man 3, but still appeared in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.)

The end of Avengers: Endgame marked Evans’ last appearance as Captain America. After living out his life in the past, his (now much older) present-day self passed off the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). Wilson’s Captain America will team up with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) in the upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

So, what could Evans’ reappearance as Captain America look like? He could always appear in a flashback sequence. Or, since the MCU has established time travel and the multiverse, we could see Evans’ Captain America in the past or in an alternate timeline/universe.

What do you think? Where would you like to see Evans pop up in the MCU? Drop your theories in the comments.
