Trekkies don’t play around when it comes to their documentaries.

455 Films, the team behind the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine documentary What We Left Behind and William Shatner’s The Captains, recently launched an IndieGoGo campaign to crowdfund a Star Trek: Voyager doc.

And fans went WILD. The original goal set by filmmakers was $150,000. In the first 24 hours alone, the campaign raised three times that amount – over $450,000. That makes it the most successful documentary campaign in IndieGoGo’s history.

Now, with 16 days left in the campaign, that total is over $700,000. More than 7,000 Star Trek: Voyager fans came together to raise the money. The additional funding helped unlock a number of stretch goals, including licensing the original series’ theme music and creating an original score just for the documentary.

“The entire Voyager Documentary team and cast of Star Trek Voyager continue to be amazed and grateful to the fans of Star Trek for their overwhelming support of this documentary,” said executive producer/director David Zappone. “We have many more surprises in store over the next couple weeks before the campaign wraps, including working with CBS on exploring the possibility of taking select standard definition Voyager series scenes and transcoding them to a higher resolution.”

The 455 Films team brings in professionals from many parts of the Star Trek production and fandom world. So you know they’re just as invested as the viewers will be. (They’re also pretty excited to see the campaign take off during Women’s History Month; Star Trek: Voyager had the franchise’s first female captain!)
