Anyone remember the good ol’ days of watching the original Sailor Moon anime on Saturday mornings? Well, Netflix remembers. How else do you explain them having acquired the rights to stream Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie?

Am I the only one who thinks those poses are as silly as they are nostalgic?

Netflix is proud to reveal Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie Parts 1 and 2. It’s the first Sailor Moon anime film to be produced since Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie all the way back in 1995, meaning that it’s been 26 years since we last saw a Sailor Moon feature-length film. As you can tell from the 2-part feature, they’re definitely trying to make up for that.

Like so many others around the world, I trace my love for anime back to watching ‘Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon’ when I was a toddler – pictures of me in Usagi’s Bun Head have become a family treasure. It’s no surprise that these characters and tales about love and justice still touch the hearts of so many fans around the world. It’s a dream come true for all of us at Netflix to have ‘Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie’ join our expansive anime slate and to share this incredible story with fans around the world.

On top of this revelation, Netflix also announces that they’ll stream both parts of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie globally (outside of Japan) on June 3, 2021. I don’t know how they managed to acquire the rights to stream this anime film exclusively on their platform, but it’s true.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Netflix Exclusive

We don’t have much on the plot of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie, for either parts. However, we do have a short synopsis from Netflix. According to them:

The upcoming adventures are set in April, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom and Tokyo is in a festive mood as it celebrates the largest Total Solar Eclipse of the century. As the new moon obscures the sun and gradually dims its light, Usagi and Chibi-Usa encounter Pegasus, who is in search of the chosen Maiden who can break the seal of the Golden Crystal. Meanwhile, a mysterious troupe called the Dead Moon Circus appears in town who’s nefarious plan is to scatter the nightmare incarnations known as Lemures, seize the ‘Legendary Silver Crystal,’ rule over the moon and the earth, and eventually dominate the entire universe…

So yeah, based on that short synopsis, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie sounds like a typical Sailor Moon arc. In face, this whole film is a continuation of the recent Sailor Moon Crystal anime. It actually serves as its 4th season. The only difference here is that it’s all packed into a pair of feature-length anime films. Each film is 80 minutes long, for a total of 160 minutes. Yeah, at nearly 3 hours long total, you’re in for a long and wild ride. Make sure to get the big bucket of popcorn in preparation.

Conclusion

Netflix announces the reveal of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie Part 1 and Part 2. They’ll stream this highly anticipated anime film on June 3, 2021. If you’re a fan of the original Sailor Moon anime, or if you’re a new fan who’s only familiar with Crystal, in the name of the Moon, check it out on that day. Just prepare to watch some evil get punished.
