Rejoice, fans of Stargate SG-1! For someone else has decided to take up the mantle and attempt to make a Stargate game in the form of Stargate: Timekeepers!

A bit lacking in substance, but it’ll do for now.

Slitherine Software (Panzer Corps, Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock) and CreativeForge Games (Hard West, Phantom Doctrine), in collaboration with MGM, are proud to officially announce Stargate: Timekeepers on May 11, 2021. This announcement also came with the teaser trailer you see above. The teaser should be familiar to all fans of the Stargate series. It shows a Stargate slowly activating, chevrons locking into place as it dials into an address. You can tell from the surroundings that this particular Stargate is the SGC’s. The metal ramp, Earth-made power cables, and the concrete background gives it away. All this is set to the tune of Stargate SG-1’s theme song, which makes the eventual activation and travel through the event horizon of the wormhole all the more enjoyable.

Now hopefully, it lives up to the hype.

Unfortunately, that imagery plus the message that it’s coming to PC is the only things of substance in that Stargate: Timekeepers teaser trailer. The trailer gives no release date. It certainly does not give any gameplay footage. It is only an announcement trailer, after all. However, in the video’s description, we do get a bit more info. They actually talk a bit about the nature of the game itself, and what we can expect from it. The info is as follows:

In collaboration with leading entertainment company Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), Slitherine, a world leading producer and publisher of digital strategy games, is proud to announce that it will develop and publish Stargate: Timekeepers, the first-ever strategy PC game based on the fan favorite series, Stargate SG-1.

Stargate: Timekeepers departs from the end of season 7 of the Stargate SG-1 main plot to create a wholly original story starting during the Battle of Antarctica, where Command Eva McCain and her team are tasked with supporting the SG-1 against Anubis’s fleet. The aftermath of the battle sees Commander McCain and her squad face an epic adventure that spans multiple original locations.

In Stargate: Timekeepers, players will travel through time and space, save civilians from the threats of their system lords, rescue their friends and allies from danger, and much more.

So yeah, Stargate: Timekeepers will be a strategy game. You may or may not be excited about this news. However, speaking as a fan of the series myself (minus Stargate Universe), I do hope this actually results in a good game. There have been a couple attempts to make one before. So far, none of them thus far have resulted in anything like a good game. Hopefully, Timekeepers will be different.

Conclusion

Slitherine, CreativeForge, and MGM officially announce Stargate: Timekeepers. It will be a sci-fi strategy game for the PC set in the Stargate: SG-1 universe with an original story set during the Battle of Antarctica against Anubis’ forces. Beyond that, we have no other additional info. Not even a release date. Stand by for more news as this story develops.
