Today, CBS released the official trailer for Marshals (no longer with the Y:), the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff. The series sees Luke Grimes reprising his role as Kayce Dutton, this time joining an elite squad of U.S. Marshals. Marshals is set to premiere on Sunday, March 1 (8:00 PM ET/PT) on CBS, with streaming available on Paramount+. The series also marks a major turning point for the franchise. While Taylor Sheridan remains on board as an executive producer, Marshals is the first entry in the Yellowstone universe not written by him, a shift that has fans buzzing about how this new chapter will feel. If the newly released trailer is any indication, the answer is action-packed. Keep reading to watch the trailer and see why Marshals is shaping up to be must-watch TV.

Marshals Trailer

About Marshals

With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana. Kayce and his teammates – Pete Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green), Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel), Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos) and Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means) – must balance the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence with their duty to their families, which for Kayce includes his son Tate (Brecken Merrill) and his confidantes Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) and Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) from the Broken Rock reservation.

What About Monica?

Since the series was announced and casting details began to emerge, one major question has loomed over Marshals: what happened to Monica? Yellowstone fans will remember that the series finale saw Kayce finally walk away from the ranch, choosing a quieter life with his wife, Monica, and their son, Tate. Yet Kelsey Asbille, who portrayed Monica, has never been confirmed as part of the Marshals cast, and the trailer appears to hint at a far darker outcome for her character

“The only thing I ever wanted was taken from me,” Kayce says as the trailer begins, and a nurse covers a body on his bed with a sheet, as Kayce and his son, Tate (Brecken Merrill), watch with a pained expression on their faces.

While nothing is confirmed, one can certainly connect the dots between the casting news and what has been shown in the trailer. It looks like Kayce Dutton will once again be dealing with a tragic loss.
