‘Shrinking,’ is one of the most popular shows on Apple TV. Its set to return for its highly anticipated third season this week. But just a day before the Emmy Award-nominated series comes back with its exciting next chapter, the streamer announced that the show has been renewed for a fourth season.

The acclaimed dramedy was created by Bill Lawrence, Brett Goldstein, and Jason Segel. It follows grieving therapist Jimmy Laird (played by Segel) as he begins taking an unconventional approach with his patients by sharing exactly what he thinks with them. Not only does this method seem to be working (with varying results), but it has also sparked new life in Jimmy. Helping him get back on track with his own healing.

After examining the overarching themes of loss in season one and forgiveness in season two, season three explores the process of moving on. As well as how that looks for Jimmy, his daughter/high school senior Alice, and their support system. But where does the story go from there? In an interview with TVLine, Lawrence revealed that the show was originally pitched as a three-season arc. At the time, he said, “If we’re lucky enough and Apple seems excited to keep making the show, we’ll come up with a new story.” Thankfully, fans are relieved to hear that luck (and a pretty solid track record of producing high-quality projects) seems to be on the side of Lawrence and company. As they are also working on a new season of ‘Ted Lasso’ for the streamer.

In addition to Segel, ‘Shrinking’ features a stellar ensemble cast. It includes Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lucite Maxwell, Ted McGinley, and Christa Miller. They have all delivered incredible performances that made audiences fall in love with this story. Season two saw the standout addition of series co-creator and “Ted Lasso” star Goldstein. He plays the drunk driver who killed Jimmy’s wife. As well as Damon Wayans Jr., a new romantic interest for Gaby, and Segel’s former “How I Met Your Mother” co-star Cobie Smulders. Now, season three will add even more fuel to the fire with pop culture icons like Michael J. Fox, Jeff Daniels, and Candice Bergen, as well as icons in the making like Sherry Cola and Isabella Gomez.
