The God of War series from Prime Video has found its Thor.
Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Severance) has joined the cast of the upcoming Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios series adaptation of the classic PlayStation games of the same name. He joins Teresa Palmer as Sif, Max Parker as Heimdall, and Ryan Hurst as Kratos, in the series so far.
The God of Thunder in God of War is a mountain of a man, but one that’s affected by the many wars he’s fought. Thor drowns himself in alcohol and hides away from the reality of his life. He was once a loyal soldier of Asgard and his father’s right-hand man, but don’t forget that he’s a god, and a powerful one.
Funnily enough, in the video games, Ryan Hurst played Thor in God of War Ragnarok.
The series has received a two-season order with pre-production underway in Vancouver and casting has begun. God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
Ronald D. Moore serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. God of War is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
Ólafur Darri Ólafsson can be seen in Severance, Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue, Your Friends and Neighbors, and he’s been in plenty of other TV roles throughout his career.
