Fans of the classic romance manga and anime Fruits Basket will readily recall the name Kyoko Honda. As the late mother of series protagonist Tohru Honda, she was a fascinating posthumous character with a most colorful past as an ex-gang member. Alas, we only get to see bits and pieces of that past in the story proper. Fortunately, it looks like we’re going to get to see Kyoko’s full backstory in this upcoming anime film, and we now know exactly when we can see it to boot.
Crunchyroll is proud to announce that tickets for the anime film Fruits Basket -prelude- are now on sale. With said anime film screening on Monday, February 16 at 7PM (local time) in select theaters in the U.S. and Canada. All as a part of Crunchyroll’s monthly Anime Nights program, of course. You can purchase those tickets directly from Fandango. And if you want a teaser about this prequel anime film’s story, then you need look no further than below:

Alas, for all that Fruits Basket -prelude- looks like a new anime film, it’s actually pretty old. It first made its Japanese theatrical debut on February 18, 2022, after all. In fact, you can stream it right now directly from Crunchyroll if you wish to avoid paying for the ticket. However, if you want to emulate the experience of those theater-goers who watched its debut in Japan, then you might want to think about experiencing this particular Anime Night. Especially if you’re a fan of Natsuki Takaya’s work in the original Fruits Basket manga.
